The new Ligue 1 season starts this weekend and that means the fantasy season starts as well. Here is a list of some players to watch to help you get your Ligue 1 fantasy team off to a fast start.
Goalkeeper
Victor Enyeama €11.03 Lille – last season he was the top scoring goalkeeper, if you believe Lille can match last season defensive record then he will be value for money. However, I suspect Lille could struggle to emulate their outstanding record from the 2013/14 season.
Salvatore Sirigu €13.89m PSG – they will have the best defensive record in the league come the end of the season, if you can afford to get him in your team then there will be no higher scoring keeper in the game.
Steve Mandanda €7.81 Marseille – if you want a cheaper option from a top club then this is your guy. Marseille should be among the top teams in the league with the defensive record to match.
Alphonse Areola €5.01m Bastia – on loan from PSG and a player with a very bright future. This is his chance for first team football and prove his worth to his parent club.
Defenders
Serge Aurier €14m PSG – a very expensive defender but loves to get forward to add attacking points to the numerous clean sheets PSG should keep this season. He should prove the best value of the expensive PSG defenders.
Assuming you get as many PSG defenders as possible you are going to need a few cheaper options:
David Rozenhal €7.34m Lille – Lille had one of the best defensive records in Europe last season with Rozenhal at the heart of it, and there is no reason why that can’t continue this season.
Benjamin Mendy €6.41 and Rod Fanni €7.86m Marseille – Marseille conceded just over a goal a game last season, but with Marcelo Bielsa in charge this season it’s difficult to gauge how his style of football will impact their record. Marseille defenders are relatively cheap and will be worth watching if you don’t include any from the start.
Bakary Kone €6.60m & Milan Bisevac €5.33m Lyon – Lyon enjoyed a disappointing season last time out and will surely be better this season. Kone and Bisevac could prove great value at such low prices.
Midfield
Wissam Ben Yedder €12.01 Toulouse – expensive but a regular goal scorer and he tends to play in more attacking areas of the pitch, notching up 16 goals last season.
Dmitri Payet €7m or Florian Thauvin €10.89m Marseille – more players who could benefit under Marcelo Biesla and prove a bargain. Payet delivers loads of crosses and also gets his share of goals. Thauvin is a very good young player, though to prove value for his price he will need to contribute more than the 8 goals and 2 assists of last season.
Lucas Moura €9.2m PSG – in a PSG team that will in all likelihood dominate the league Moura could prove a relatively cheap option. 5 goals and 11 assists was a good return last season and he should be even stronger this season as he continues to develop in European football.
Yohan Cabaye €4.24 PSG – if you want a cheaper PSG midfield than Cabaye is your man. At such a low price it is difficult to make an argument against having him in your team.
Striker
Zlatan Ibrahimovic €18m PSG – he averaged 14pts a game last season and even though he is very expensive you will struggle to compete with those who do have him, so make the space in your budget. If you want a cheaper PSG option then go for Ezequiel Lavezzi at €9.53m
Radomel Falcao €9m Monaco – he scores goals for fun and is very cheap for a player of his quality. As the young Monaco squad continues to develop and improve Falcao could prove a bargain.
Andre-Pierre Gignac €11.88m or Andre Ayew €11.11m Marseille – Marcelo Biesla will encourage attacking football and these are the guys who will be looking to finish off the attacking moves.
Djibril Cisse €4.17m and Brandao €4.43m Bastia – Cisse struggled to score after joining Bastia in the January window last season, but he has a good goal scoring record and should prove a good addition to your squad. Brandao is another with a good if unremarkable goal scoring record and could be a shrewd signing for the price.
Gianni Bruno €3.72m Evian – he got 111pts last season averaging 4pts per game last season. He is unlikely to score you boatloads of points but should make an excellent squad filler.
Divock Origi €4.28 Lille – he had a breakout World Cup which earned him a move to Liverpool but will spend this season on loan in France. Origi looks to be a no brainer at such a low price.
