FOOTBALL MANAGER 2011 UNVEILED

Sports Interactive Confirm Football Manager 2011 Release This Year

LONDON (August 11th, 2010) – Sports Interactive & SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that Football Manager™ 2011 for PC and Apple Macintosh, and Football Manager Handheld™ 2011 for Sony PlayStation® Portable will be released before Christmas 2010. FM2011 will feature more new features than ever before, including real-time contract negotiation, a revamped training system and a number of match engine improvements, Football Manager 2011 will once again raise the bar for football management games.

Football Manager 2011 is the latest iteration of the award-winning Football Manager series. Selling in excess of 6 Million copies worldwide, Football Manager has been topping the UK PC charts for the last five years.

Football Manager 2011 will be more polished than ever this year, and Sports Interactive will again set a new standard for the genre by adding a host of new features. For the first time ever, aspiring managers can now negotiate contracts with players in real time. And by working with a multitude of real-life football agents, Sports Interactive gained an insight as to how these negotiations can be made as realistic as possible in-game. Prepare to meet different types of agents in your contract talks; each with their own personality so will therefore need a different approach.

“At Sports Interactive, we always strive to give the end-user the best experience possible,” said Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive. “The training system for example has always been the best we thought it could be, until now. We’ve found a way to make it even better!”

With the implementation of the most intuitive training system in the series history, there is a new “match preparation” area of training so that managers can give their team specific areas to focus on in the lead up to a match. There are also more basic training schedules for players, and 14 different individual skill areas that you can focus your players
on.

Interaction with players, staff and the board have gone to a whole new level, with a host of new boardroom and backroom requests, a new player interaction module that allows the manager to have private conversations with players, as well as public conversations regarding players at other clubs.

Two years after the launch of the 3D Match Engine, players will see a number of improvements implemented for this year’s release. With over 100 new animations added, as well as more player emotions, new player models, new stadiums, pitch textures, improved lighting, floodlit night matches, more goal celebrations and lots of other extras which improve what was already the best match simulation on the market.

The other new features announced today include a revamped media module, which will keep the managers better up to date with events going on in their football world, as well as being more customisable than ever before, and the most requested feature that the Sports Interactive community have asked for in the last few years, dynamic league reputation, which makes for an even more realistic model of the footballing world.

Further new features will be announced via Twitter (@si_games), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/officialfootballmanager), a series of blogs and the popular Football Manager Podcast in the months leading up to the game’s release. With more new features than anyone could ever fit in a press release, Football Manager will retain its position as the most realistic, most played, annually best selling, and highest reviewed football management simulation in the world.

PLEASE NOTE - THESE ARE ONLY THE FIRST FEATURES TO BE ANNOUNCED FOR THE GAME AND IS IN NO WAY A FULL, OR EVEN NEARLY FULL, FEATURE LIST.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE - discussions that aren't about what was announced today, or questions about things that haven't been announced today, will be completely ignored, so it's pointless posting them. Thank you for your understanding

Cập nhật thêm 1 số thông tin cho các bạn nào quan tâm:

One of the reasons why Football Manager is enjoyed by so many people is the immersive aspect of the game. When you are in your Football Manager world, it feels like a parallel universe where you are the manager. You know every little detail about your club, but obviously also need to know about the world around you, and that's where the media in FM becomes so important.

A couple of years ago we made a decision to split the news about your team, and about other teams, in two. The decision was made as there was so much going on in the world that people playing it might complain about becoming lost.

The approach we took was wrong. It led to people knowing everything about their clubs, but unless they really took notice, they didn't know what was going on elsewhere.

This year, that problem is gone.

For a start, all of the news goes to the same place, whether it be about your club or others. But the news is very configurable via a vastly improved subscription system.

By default, you'll get all important news about your own league. That includes transfers, how other teams are doing, players you are interested in, big tournaments, the national team, your favourite club and, of course, the things that are going on at your club.

If that's too much for you, you can turn things off with a couple of button clicks. If you want more, again, a few button clicks and you can be subscribed to every bit of news about every player and team in the world!

It's your game, so you choose how much or how little you know about the world you escape into.

You also get more information from the in game news than ever before. A new module that someone much more clever than me has worked on has added an extra element to news items by calculating all of the possible combinations before a match on what winning, losing or drawing that game will do to your league position. That then gets factored into a lot of the news items, which makes the game more immersive, yet easier to find information. It's also used to work out at what point you've qualified for European competitions or can get into the playoffs etc, so no need to work it out yourself anymore!

There are also dozens of new news items that have been introduced this year to also provide more information to the manager, and some nice changes to existing news items.

I'm not going to detail all of them because firstly it'll break the internet as there are so many, and secondly, I don't want to give everything away, or else there'll be no surprises when the game comes out!

Here are a few of my favourite additions this year.

- More varied goal descriptions and better descriptions of player performances for post match reports.

- New news item to show when players are about to trigger contract clauses or their contracts are running down.

- More information on why someone has been sacked, or why you've been sacked (!) in the news item.

- A fortnightly competition round-up highlighting statistics such as scoring and assist charts, man of the match charts and other bits and pieces to keep you in touch with the world around you.

- News items when shock transfers are made, such as a player or manager dropping a couple of divisions.

- A season expectations review from your board to let you know how they think you've done in the last season.

- Player debut news items.

- Improved news items regarding major finals to give them the build up that they get in the real world.

- Squad number reaction news, where the press react and comment on squad number allocation and situations where players have not been registered in a squad.

- A yearly training round-up which goes nicely with the new training system in Football Manager 2011, which will get discussed in proper detail in a future blog.

In yesterday’s blog, I wrote about the match engine 3D viewer and it’s improved animations , with a couple of videos showing the difference between Football Manager 2011 and Football Manager 2009. So what about the rest of the match viewer?

As with the animations and the match engine, a lot of work has gone into the rest of the match viewer too. There are loads of optimisations in there which make it look a lot smoother, and despite all the extra bells and whistles, if you were able to watch in 3D in Football Manager 2010 then it’ll still work fine with Football Manager 2011 too (as will all other parts of the game) as the minimum computer spec needed is the same as last year.

One of the most obvious of these - if you aren’t managing a huge club with a big stadium - is the new background scenes. There are three different types of background, field, street and industrial. No longer does it look like matches are being played in space!

I have to admit that when work started on these I was very sceptical but I'm delighted to have been proven wrong. There are lots of comments on our forums over at community.sigames.com about how great they look - and those people are correct, as they do add an extra element to what you are viewing on screen.

The game selects an appropriate outside scene to use for a club by determining the population of the area. For example, if the club is based in a densely populated city then it's likely to show an outside scene that looks more like a town, with estates. If it's sparsely populated then you're more likely to see an outside scene with fields and trees.

The player models have also been completely revamped. Player models are the way that the players look, and are made out of lots of tiny triangles called “polygons”. Each player now has a minimum of 1,000 polygons, and a maximum of 5,000, depending on whether you are viewing the game on low, medium or high detail, which will depend on the spec of the graphics card in your PC and Mac.

The stadiums have also had a big overhaul with a lost of improvements to the stands and terraces and different kinds of roofs and lots of extra detail, such as different types of dugout and even scaffolding!

Crowd models are also improved, and you’ll see them move with the action too, so no longer will the spectators look like they are staring into space, or directly into the camera.

Lighting is also hugely improved, with floodlight effects for night matches and better shadowing - particularly in the high graphics mode - to try and make the action look at realistic as possible. We're also taking into account that you still need to be able to see the action of the pitch, though, so the graphics engine uses the same lighting tricks that TV uses for broadcast.

There is a new camera angle too, called “TV”, which should give a similar perspective to how you would see the majority of the game on TV. It’s more zoomed in than our previous camera angles, so you are closer to the action, and shows off our new animations really well. I have to admit that since it’s gone into the game, I struggle to watch matches with any other camera.

You can also now set up a replay camera to be able to watch replays with a different camera angle to the rest of the game, and have options for replays for goals, key highlights, and goal action.

The latter of which is the most interesting, as it shows off another new feature, which is offside lines. If a goal is disallowed for offside when you watch the replay it will draw a line where the last defender is which shows you whether your player was offside or not, which will certainly help you in the post match press conference! Like real life, our refs don’t always get it right…

For those who like using the split screen mode, which is where you could have the match on one half of the screen, and other information on the other half, the radar screen, which is a mini pitch view, is now available to use in this mode. It’s also possible to change the size of the split, so you aren’t forced to use half the screen anymore, you could split it up to 2/3rd 1/3rd or any other way you choose.

If you play the game in the TV view, there are still the same “widgets” that can be used to bring extra information up on screen. There have been lots of improvements here, though, including a “minimise all widgets” option and more information in the player ratings widget. And a new one, called “overview”, which shows the goalscorers.

There’s also a visual representation of substitutions, the ability to turn on or off the player condition boxes, a new stat for crosses and crosses completed, a penalty shoot out bar, and you can select multiple players on the pitch to view their names and condition, rather than just being able to select one.

And finally for today, there are some changes to the way that weather works in the game. Previously, the weather was set, so if it was rainy, it would be rainy for the whole match. It’s not often that rain, sleet, or snow last a full 90 minutes, so weather can now change during the match. So get ready for some rainy downpours, to drizzle, to the sun coming out. The only thing we don’t have is rainbows.

I’ll be back tomorrow with more news on the upcoming Football Manager 2011.
